Home to the country’s oldest fish port, Navotas remains a major figure in the local fishing industry, handling an average of 850 tons of seafood daily. Navotas was once a part of Malabon and, at one point, was incorporated into the province of Rizal. After becoming an independent municipality in 1906, the coastal town became a city in 2007 by virtue of a plebiscite.
