In adopting the rainbow as its official symbol, Pinamalayan brought to life the tale of how it came to be. The early settlers, lost at sea in turbulent weather, found hope in a rainbow that appeared on the horizon, leading them to safety in a land they eventually called home. Ipinamalay na (it was made known to us) was how the settlers described the experience of finding land, so the legend goes, and thus became the phrase from which the town’s name was derived.
