At 175-million-year-old, rock formations south of Mansalay Bay reveal the presence of ammonite, a fossil shell of an extinct group of mollusks that dates back to the Middle Jurassic age. Today Mansalay is home to nearly 52,000 people including the Hanunuo Mangyan tribe. The tribe’s culture and writing system was the subject of study by Dutch anthropologist Antoon Postma (Deceased, November 2016).
