Calapan City, the provincial capital of Oriental Mindoro, combines the convenience of an urbanized landscape and the attraction of eco-tourism sites and natural sanctuaries. The Calapan City Seaport is the largest and busiest port in Mindoro, while off the city’s northern coast lie the Baco-Chico Islets and Harka Piloto Island, well-known destinations for island hopping, diving, and snorkeling. Within the city center are a number of malls, hotels, and restaurant chains, while sprawled at the mouth of the Bucayao River, northwest of the urban hub, is a 42-hectare mangrove sanctuary that hosts several species of migratory birds and thousands of fireflies.
