A great and turbulent river, which the early Mangyan settlers called binagao, runs across Bongabong, from which the town’s name was derived. Bongabong is home to Kuta Shrine, a 17th century church and fortress declared as the province's first National Historical Landmark by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. Among the town’s other natural attractions are several waterfalls and barely explored caves.
