Baco, a third-class municipality of about 35,000 people, lies on the northern part of Oriental Mindoro. On its eastern border stands the town’s most treasured natural resource, Mt. Halcon. At 2,586 meters above sea level, the mountain is the highest peak in Mindoro Island. Its steep and treacherous trails present a serious challenge to even the most seasoned climbers. For the more laid-back explorers, Baco offers a number of waterfalls and rivers, and a couple of nature resorts with modest amenities.
