There is now a faster way to traverse the long-time neighbors Cavite and Manila. Cavite -based commuters can now opt for a faster and more convenient way to reach their Manila-based offices on time.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) launched a new commute system that utilizes Manila de Bay in the hopes of reducing travel time from Cavite to Manila.

DOTr launched ‘Water Jeepneys’ last December 9, 2019. The jeepneys will traverse the Manila de Bay from Cavite City Port Terminal to two of the port stations in Manila: one in Lawton and one on the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Port along Roxas Boulevard. These water jeepneys can cut the usual 4-hour travel time from Cavite to Manila to just 20 minutes.

Currently, two ferry boats are available for daily trips. Owners of the boats, Shogun Ships Co. Inc. and Seaborne Shipping Co. Inc. announced that fees are waived until January 31, 2020.

Now, after the month-long trial, regular tickets will be priced at P180 per ride, while students, senior citizens and people with disabilities will pay discounted tickets of P114 to P128. Children aged 3 and below will enjoy free rides while those between 4 and 11 years old will pay P80.

The Cavite government shared its plans of bringing in much bigger boats in order for more people to split the fare. Current Water Jeepney Schedules are operating daily, with departure intervals of 15 minutes. The first trip from Cavite leaves at 5:15 am while the Lawton first trip leaves at 6:30 am. The last trip from Cavite is at 5:54 pm and the last ferry from Lawton leaves at exactly 7 pm.
