A Steampunk Musical

For the past three runs, it has attracted thousands of audiences in almost 40 shows at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Tanghalang Pilipino, the resident theater company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, brings back the hit musical play, "Mabining Mandirigma, a steampunk musical” to open its 33rd theater season.

Written by Dr. Nicanor Tiongson, this musical play foregrounds the legal and diplomatic heroism of Apolinario Mabini. Coincidentally, as the culminating production to celebrate the 50th year of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the play once again promises audiences to an exciting journey through history as it utilizes Steampunk, a subgenre of science fiction that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th Century industrial steam-powered machinery, as a fitting backdrop to an already action-packed musical.

It gets even better as Monique Wilson joins the party. Fresh from her success as the director of the highly-acclaimed One Billion Rising, the artist goes back to her acting roots as she plays one of the most prolific Filipino heroes, Apolinario Mabini. One of the most versatile Theater and Film actor in the country today, Monique has started her career at a tender age of nine.

Born Monica Anne Esteva Wilson a.k.a. Monique Wilson is a veteran theater and movie actress and one of Philippine’s world-class talent. Her most notable role is when she played the lead role as Kim in the original London West End production of Mis

Perhaps her most recognized role was playing the lead character Kim in the west-end production of Miss Saigon, to critical acclaim.
