Book cum Ethnology Museum
Attraction
3.50 km away

An impressive collection of travel artefacts, Book cum Ethnology Museum records Dominador Buhain’s adventures among the 273 countries he’s visited, and counting. The museum has six sections, two of which are the major ones, the Book Museum and the Ethnology Museum. The Ethnology Museum highlights well-preserved artifacts from the Cordillera Region, the same innovative culture that built the Banaue Rice Terraces. Meanwhile, the Book Museum showcases Buhain’s collection of books, magazines, diaries, and other quirky books, such as the smallest book in the world—it’s the size of a thumbnail (3.3 x 3.3 mm). The four other sections of the museum include the Embossed Mural, the Totem Poles, the James Jean Diner, and the Ladies' Dorm. Founded in 2013, the Book cum Ethnology Museum is owned and managed by Dominador Buhain, a restless traveler and an avid collector of memories and memorabilia.

Vargas Museum and Filipiniana Research Center
Attraction
4.49 km away

Located in the University of the Philippines Diliman campus, Vargas Museum is a four-story museum that specializes in Filipino art. The museum is surrounded with sculptures outside, with the Lapu-Lapu sculpture located in front and the Balanghay at the back. Inside, the Main Gallery displays artworks from the 1880s to the 1960s. It covers various mediums such as watercolors, pastels, oil paintings, sculptures, and art installations, from celebrated artists such as Lorenzo Guerrero, Simon Flores, Juan Luna, and Felix Resurrecion Hidalgo. The third floor is dedicated to the archives section, which is home to the Filipiniana library and the Vargas memorabilia. Vargas Museum and Filipiniana Research Center is named after Jorge B. Vargas, who donated his collection of art, coins, stamps, library, and personal papers to the University of the Philippines in 1978. The Museum Cafe sits just outside the building, serving caffeinated drinks, sandwiches, and pasta.

Marikina River Park
Attraction
4.57 km away

Marikina River Park lies next to the Marikina River, a catch basin of rainwater in Metro Manila. While it's the first to pop up in the news due to devastating floods, Marikina River could be charming, if not harassed by typhoons. Marikina River Park is open for picnic, running, biking, skating (it has a dedicated skating rink), and camping. The park also features the feminist statue "The Filipina Leader Soars High" by Juan Sajid Imao, the Filipino sculptor who built the immense Lapu-Lapu sculpture in Rizal Park, Manila. A few meters from the park is the towering statue of Maria Quina, a legendary woman who possessed sublime beauty and kindness. The lady statue, as well as the white carabao statue nearby, works as a rough measurement to calculate the depth of an incoming flood. Once the water reaches Maria Quina’ neck, nearby residents are alerted to evacuate to higher land.

“Living La Vida Imelda” is a multi-media monologue of musings about former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos and memories of life in 1970s Manila. We won’t talk about shoes very much but we’ll ponder over issues such as state sanctioned kitsch, hierarchies in human psychology and human rights, and the importance of winning beauty pageants in a developing nation. It will be a night of gossip, disco music, tragic facts and anecdotes so absurd that it’s got to be true.
