Baclaran Market
Attraction
1.45 km away

Next to Divisoria, the shopping mecca of the Philippines, Baclaran Market sells some of the cheapest merchandise in Metro Manila. The market sells an assortment of kitchenwares, clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, school supplies, electronics, and devotional souvenirs like candles, vestments, rosaries, sampaguitas, and religious icons. When visiting Baclaran Market, be prepared to haggle with the vendors, and watch out for pickpockets. The market is hot and cramped, all the more so on Wednesdays, or Baclaran Day, when the nearby church attracts 120,000 visitors. The market comprise the whole Redemptionist Street, and forks off to various streets and alleys.

Baclaran Church (National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help)
Attraction
1.63 km away

Baclaran Church gets its name from the word baklad, meaning "fish trap". Located along Coastal Road and facing Manila Bay, Baclaran used to be a place where villagers collect their fish. Today, Baclaran Church, also called the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, is one of the three most visited churches in Metro Manila. It attracts about 120,000 devotees every Wednesday, otherwise known as Baclaran Day. The church's highlight is the widely venerated icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. The icon was brought to Baclaran by Redemptionists priests in 1932, where it drew a steady number of followers. Built in 1953, Baclaran Church and its attached Convento were initially dedicated to Saint Therese of Lisieux. When the church opened to the public, however, it was quickly associated with Our Mother of Perpetual Help.

GSIS Museum of Art
Attraction
1.84 km away

GSIS Museum of Art, or GSIS Museo ng Sining, is famous for its two notable masterpieces, which are Fernando Amorsolo’s “History of Music” (1931) and Juan Luna’s “The Parisian Life” (1892). The two artists are iconic giants in the Philippine art industry. Besides these two paintings and other works from established painters, the museum has a diverse collection of visual art from the colonial period up to the present. A majority of the artworks come from budding artists and winners of the annual GSIS Art Competition. Other than paintings and murals, the museum displays sculptures, installations, religious art, and even antiques, cultural decorative items, and some pieces of furniture. Established in 1996, GSIS Museum of Art was created to develop an appreciation of Philippine visual arts. Apart from the free viewing of artworks, the museum also hosts art activities, workshops, performances, special tours, and film viewing, mostly for free.
