Itinerary

The tour starts at dusk for you to enjoy the view of the evening at Puerto Princesa Bay.

You'll be picked up by our driver from your city-proper hotel and will be dropped off at the Baywalk. From there, you'll ride a motor boat that will ferry you to a bigger boat where your dinner will be served. While having your dinner, you'll get to enjoy the night sky, if you’re lucky enough, you might also witness the beautiful sunset view at the bay. Adding to the experience are the city lights that can be seen from the bay once the night has taken over the day.

After completing your meals, you'll hop back to the boat that brought you
in the middle of the bay. It will bring you to a smaller boat that will bring you further in to one of the estuaries that lead to the bay. This estuary is lined with mangroves that fireflies love to stay on. Your community guide will tell you fascinating information about these creatures and the environment in general.

After the tour of the estuary, you'll head back to the wharf and on to a
waiting vehicle that will bring you back to your hotel.

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park
Attraction
0.73 km away

This captivating UNESCO World Heritage Site covers a half-submerged extensive cave system whose water flows out directly to the open sea. Situated in St. Paul mountain range about 50km away from the city proper, its unique feature is the 8.2km Underground River. Here you'd see dramatic tunnels, cavernous chambers, and catch sight of wildlife in and around the tunnel such as monkeys, bats, and giant monitor lizards. Only the first two kilometers is open to the public, however, because to the lack of oxygen in its deeper interiors. The national park is also a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, a Philippine National Geological Monument, a key aspect of the Palawan Biosphere Reserve, and, most recently, one of the Seven New Natural Wonders of the World. Group tours are easily available from tour operators in the city, but early booking is encouraged to make it to the daily cap of tourists permitted to go inside the cave. From Sabang wharf, it takes one motorized banca to go to the mouth of the underground river. A short forest walk among centuries-old indigenous trees will lead to the embarcation point for the 45-minute paddled boat ride inside. An audio guide is now provided to give tourists vital information they need to know while on the tour, as well as to minimize unnecessary sound distraction to the inhabitants of the cave. The tour to the underground river from the Sabang booking station costs P500 for the walk-in permit, P150 for the environmental fee, P85 for the audio gear, and P1,200 for a boat for 6 persons. At a travel agency this costs about P1,400 to P2,500 per person depending on the inclusions.

Attraction

A side trip you definitely shouldn't miss during your stay in Puerto Princesa is the Mangrove Paddle Boat Tour. Located in Sitio Sabang, this protected area is just a 10-minute drive from Sabang Wharf, the jump-off point to Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park. A jungle trek through the forest is also an alternative route to the underground river, which costs P200 per head. A cooperative composed of 19 resident members oversees both activities, along with birdwatching, paddleboat learning, and tree-planting. The river paddling tour which lasts from 45 minutes to an hour takes travelers deep into the forest to get up close with century-old mangroves that have grown as high as 30 meters. Expect an encounter with the wildlife that thrive in this area as well, which include several species of snakes, monitor lizards, kingfishers, monkeys, and wild chickens. The tour, paddleboat lessons, and birdwatching costs P350 per head; the tree-planting, on the other hand, is free.
