Fort San Jose | Things to do in Banton-Romblon

Fort San Jose Banton
Romblon Banton 170
Fort San Jose was built by El Capitan, the Spanish friar who is also responsible for the twins forts in Romblon, Romblon. Made of corals glued together using a lime mortar, the fort used to be the townfolk's refuge in the event of pirate invasions. The fort also protects the renovated church of Banton which still retains its original wooden Baroque retablo or altarpiece. Housed in the old convent, a museum displays various liturgical articles and artifacts found on the island.
