Cavite Noveleta 136
Located behind Noveleta Town Hall, Casa Tribunal bears an important landmark in Cavite's history. In 1896, the Magdiwang, a faction of the anti-Spanish Katipunan, killed Spanish authorities in this hall. Magdiwang General Pascual Alvarez killed Guardia Civil Captain Antonio Rebolledo. The Guardia Civil Lieutenant Francisco Naval Ayudante was also killed, while the rest of the Guardia Civil were imprisoned. This event further intensified the Philippine Revolution in Cavite. Over the century, Casa Tribunal served various purposes for the government. It was once the office of Spanish government in Noveleta, then turned into the Magdiwang's office after its capture. Thereafter, the hall served as a post office, a library, a makeshift classroom, and an office to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). It now serves as a temporary office to the Mayor's League. Inside you'll find portraits of Noveleta's previous mayors, and a Filipino-Spanish battle painting entitled "Tulay na Kalero".
Open: Mon - Fri, 8am - 4pm; closed on holidays.

Kawit Town Hall (Old Tribunal)
Attraction
3.10 km away

Beside St. Mary Magdalene Church once stood the old town hall of Kawit, site of a short but significant attack by Filipino revolutionaries that sparked the uprising in Cavite. On the afternoon of August 31, 1896, Emilio Aguinaldo and Candido Tirona led a group of fighters in storming the seat of government and seizing guns from the Guardia Civil. The attack, now known as the Kawit Revolt, was capped off with the raising of the Magdalo flag at the town hall. A new municipal building with a pink facade now stands in place of the old town hall but the National Historical Commission has placed a marker on the front wall indicating the historical significance of the site. A few meters from the building is a statue of Candido Tirona. He served as the Secretary of War of the Katipunans Magdalo Council. Tirona died in the famed Battle of Binakayan barely three months after the Kawit Revolt.

Kawit Church
Attraction
3.21 km away

Also known as St. Mary Magdalene Parish, Kawit Church is one of nine pilgrim churches in Cavite. It is also the second oldest parish in the province. Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, President of the First Philippine Republic, was baptized here in 1869. Jesuits established the parish in 1624, but it wasn't until 1737 when the current stone structure was built. The church was nearly destroyed during the Philippine-American war. In 1990, the church was renovated and restored with an orange brick facade and a four-storey belfry. Typical of earthquake baroque style, both sides of the church are supported by thick buttresses. On the main and side altars are three gold-and-white retablos built in the 1800s. An antique life-sized image of St. Mary Magdalene, which locals believe to be miraculous, is displayed on the left altar.

Pandayan (Blacksmith Shop)
Attraction
3.29 km away

The local foundry is an old and diminishing trade in Kawit but Germana Santulan manages to keep it alive with her family-owned pandayan or blacksmith shop. Operating at the back of her house in Barangay Kaingen, the shop still makes knives and blades (P100-400/piece) in basically the same way it was done in the 19th century.
Foundries, once a thriving local industry, produced swords, bolos, and machetes that were used by Filipino fighters during the Philippine Revolution. Santulan still keeps two swords with metal hilts that she said has been around for a long time, possibly even dating back to the Spanish period. A mere five-minute walk from the Aguinaldo Shrine, the pandayan remains a living part of Kawit’s historical narrative.
