Crocodile Farm (PWRCC) | Things to do in Puerto Princesa City-Palawan
|Address:||Irawan, , Puerto Princesa City, Palawan|
The butterfly garden is designed to broaden travelers' appreciation and knowledge on the most beautiful insects there are, the butterflies. It houses a wide range of butterfly species, as well as other interesting and rare insects such as the stag beetles and stick insects. Other animals such as scorpions, geckos, and millepedes, as well as endemic ones such as the Palawan bear cat, Philippine saltwater crocodile, Palawan peacock pheasant, can also be sighted here. At the back part of the garden is a special area dedicated to one of the oldest inhabitants of the island of Palawan, the Palaw'an indigenous people. In this man-made village, travelers are educated about this group's ancient language (Palaw'an paleograph), traditional musicology, and modes of hunting animals in the forest—their accuracy in using poisoned blow darts is very interesting. A souvenir shop nearby allows them to sell some of the local handicrafts they make such as baskets, mats, and other woodworks.
One of the oldest and highly esteemed traditions in Palawan is crafting colorfully designed hand-loomed products. Over the centuries, the tradition has been passed on from one generation to another, and can be witnessed firsthand in this workshop. Local craftsmen are happy to teach visitors how to manually loom indigenous fibers such as abaca, tikog, and vetiver grass as part of continuous rolls of mats, which are later shaped into useful products. Visitors can also try out weaving themselves using the foot-treadle floor loom. It's a physically and mentally engaging experience that requires coordination of the eyes, hands, and feet. Next to the workshop is a souvenir shop selling various handwoven products such as handbags, laptop bags, purses, sleeping mats, slippers, and folders. Other unique products sold here include civet coffee, which is considered the world's most flavorful coffee, and rice coffee and turmeric tea.
It is called “GREEN CITY HALL” because of its sustainable and environmentally-friendly design. The entire complex has a 3,000-capacity convention center and a four-storey City Hall w/ its own waste water treatment facility, solar panels, roof garden, generator, and power supplies accessories. The design allows for the use of natural light and ventilation which makes it more energy efficient. The design also follows the natural topography and contour of the hill, reducing the negative impact on the environment. The complex was designed by Jose Danilo Silvestre, the Dean of UP Diliman's College of Architecture.
