The battle of the best batchoy in Iloilo is endless; however, many locals seem to agree that Netong’s is on the running to be number one. With its buto-buto broth slow cooked for hours, fresh meat and offals, bone marrow infused with guinamos or shrimp paste, crushed chicharon, garlic, egg noodles, it comes to no surprise that a steaming bowl of Netong's batchoy is one of the most sought-after Ilonggo guilty pleasures. From starting out as a humble stall in Lapaz Market, Netong’s has established another branch in the commercial district of Atria, giving more local and foreign foodies easy access to a bowl of Iloilo pride.
The façade of the church, telling of the neogothic influence, already gives travelers a preview of the rich history of the building. The church was raised in 1831, under the supervision of Father Pablo Montaño, and was completed under the direction of Don Jose Manuel Locsin.
Coral stones, as well as the two red pyramidal spires, show how the so called Feminist Church has aged with glory. It is easy to reach the area as almost all jeepney routes with “Molo” or “Arevalo” on the signage will pass by the plaza. Inside the church, one can find the centerpiece that holds the image of the patron saint, St. Anne, and the 16 statues of female saints along the aisle.
Right across the town church is the grand Molo Mansion built in the 1920s. To save the structure from deteriorating, it has been restored and turned into a heritage museum. It now houses crafts and arts by the Ilonggos, and tourists can conveniently shop at a cultural retail store by the lobby.
At the backyard, one could find a sweet spot for sweet organic treats! Table Matters sell artisanal ice cream made from blue ternate and also a variety of coolers—a perfect break from touring around the district of Molo.
