The Binolanan Cornerstone Museum features the town’s local heroes unfamiliar even to its residents. The museum is located inside the University of Eastern Pangasinan along Mac Arthur Highway. Each wall of the museum features one local hero that has made an impact in Philippine history. Upon entering you will see the section dedicated to the town’s known local hero Carlos Bulosan, English-language Filipino novelist and poet. On another sides of the room are the displays on Dr. Evangelina Macaraeg Macapagal who is the mother of former Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Manuel Moran who is the first Philippine Ambassador to Spain and the Holy See. Visitors must coordinate with the local municipal hall of Binalonan if they want to have a tour. Museum visits are free and will take around 10-15 minutes to go around the exhibits. The museum will be transferred to the Binalonan Heritage Center once the center is constructed.
Binalonan longganisa is more meaty because makers would remove the fat from the meat before mixing it with spices. It has a garlicky taste that is best paired with fried rice for breakfast. Some prefer adding a bit of vinegar when eating it. Jun and Prima Bongolan have been making longganisa for more than 12 years now. They learned from Prima’s sister who had a stall in the town’s wet market. Now they have their own stall selling longganisa. They make around 10-15 kilos of meat daily but can reach up to 70 kilos when orders come in. Their longganisa is available in Binalonan, Baguio, Bolinao, and other nearby provinces.
The Holy Child Parish Church of Binalonan was created when the Dominicans declared Binalonan as a parish back in 1841. What started as a small church was later constructed into a bigger church in 1855 by Fr. Antionio Vinelas. The church was originally in Santa Catalina but latered transferred by Fr. Ramon Fernandez to its current site behind the town’s municipal hall. The church has been destroyed by a typhoon in 1881 and by the Japanese during the revolution. It had then been renovated to the church standing today.
