Carved out of the wilderness of Mindanao is 1939 as a part of the “land for the Landless Program” of President Manuel L. Quezon, General Santos City and the surrounding provinces of Southern Mindanao, now known as SOCSKSARGEN, has evolved into a bustling fishing and agro-industrial pillar of Mindanao.
Migrants started the development of SOCSKSARGEN; immigration rate to Southern Mindanao remains one of the highest on the archipelago. The pioneering spirit of the settlers from 1939 onwards still burns in the heart of the newer migrants and is the very reason why SOCSKSARGEN remains a bastion of economic growth and progress in Mindanao.
This pioneering spirit must live on and be passed to the next generation. This is the essence of the General Paulino Santos Museum: a tribute to the pioneering spirit of the migrants of Southern Mindanao.
Dubbed as the People's Champ, boxer Manny Pacquiao put not just the Philippines, but his hometown, General Santos, in the global spotlight.
