St. Joseph Parish Church | Things to do in Carmona-Cavite
|Open:||Everyday, 8am - 5pm. Takes about 15mins to explore.|
|Address:||Brgy. 6 Poblacion, Carmona, Cavite|
Since time immemorial, Carmona has the legacy of forging various kinds of long blades. Visiting Hebron Brother's knife factory is a window to exploring this Filipino craft. The factory is a sweatshop overwhelming with the sounds of hammering, pounding, scraping. Guests are toured around the process of creating knives from the molding and forging, to the pounding and polishing. Visitors are required to ask permission to tour the site before going there. Opened in 1934, Hebron Brothers started as a small blacksmith shop in Carmona. The company grew into a factory, making about 60 kinds of bolo knives for farming, gardening, and logging. The company is now the biggest factory of long blades in the Philippines. In 1975, its owner, Mang Simeon Hebron, won the Masikap Awards as Outstanding Filipino Entrepreneur, awarded by the Department of Trade and Industry.
Carmona is one of two established paragliding sites in the Philippines, the other being in Saranggani, Mindanao. The activity takes off from an unobstructed mountain in Barangay Lantik, wherein paragliders may face strong Amihan winds between the months of November to April. Each paraglider is assigned a professional pilot, who will maneuver and safely land the gliding aircraft. The glide lasts about 10 to 15 minutes, and offers a spectacular bird's eye view of Carmona and its surrounding mountains. Since paragliding requires wind speeds not exceeding 20/kph during dry weather, a flight can sometimes be canceled or postponed. Guests are advised to manage their expectations and welcome instances when no flight can take place. In the event that wind conditions are not perfect, guests can wait at the flysite's nipa huts wherein they can have a picnic or mingle with fellow gliders.
Drawing inspiration from a fisherman’s ‘salakab’ or the bamboo traps they use to snare fish, the intricate and unique facade of Museo ng Muntinlupa is a homage to its fishing roots. Now considered to be an industrial city, with booming business districts, towering buildings, and busy streets, it's hard to remember that this city used to be a fishing community. Located just at the hem of Laguna de Bay, Muntinlupa city has then come far from where they started. Museo ng Muntinlupa will tell the city’s past, tracing back to the pre-colonial era and is equipped with galleries and a PWD-friendly audio-visual room. This five-story building is built to showcase the city’s history and provide a creative space for its citizens. The museum opened its doors to the public on March 1, 2019, and is the highlight of the celebration of the 24th Cityhood Anniversary of Muntinlupa City.
