Arellano Nature Farm | Things to do in Bulusan-Sorsogon
|Address:||Bulusan, Bulusan, Sorsogon|
The park is home to two more lakes and three main peaks, which includes Mt. Bulusan, Sorsogon's highest peak and the Philippines' 4th most active volcano. Besides water activities, hiking is another popular activity among park guests. There's a trail that goes around the lake for daytrippers, and for the more adventurous ones, there's the "3 Lakes in a Climb" conquest. Its 2-day, 1-night hike that leads to Blackbird's and Anguigay Lakes in the deeper portions of the reserve.
St. James the Greater Church was established inside a Spanish garrison back in 1630. The church is still surrounded by the garrison's walls and has a reputation among locals as being the "little Intramuros of Bulusan". The church has a tower that overlooks the town and was used as both a warning signal and look-out post. The tower has several bells, with the oldest one dating back to 1810. The church itself houses an altar that was originally made of pure silver. However, there were three attempts to steal the silver during the presidential term of Ferdinand Marcos. The silver is now safely stored and preserved, and only adorns the altar during the Christmas Season.
Bulusan Lake is the tranquil scene that welcomes nature lovers at the Bulusan Volcano Natural Park. Its deep emerald waters is the first to catch attention; a glassy surface mirroring the nature that surrounds it. The dense rainforest around its perimeter is the next one to impress where upon giving it more attention reveals the diversity of its vegetation. Then finally, near the side of the lake are bursts of color in the form of kayaks, canoes, and boat bicycles. This is the postcardable image that earned Bulusan Lake the title "Switzerland of the Orient", and yet this impressive masterpiece is just the opening act to the many natural wonders sprawled across 3,673 hectares of protected area.
