Built in 1874, St. Joseph Church, popularly known as Barcelona Church, is one of the oldest churches in the Bicol region. A well-preserved heritage site, the façade, the bell tower, and its surrounding walls are the original structures whose construction did not involve any cement nor steel work. Instead, the materials used were coral rocks plastered with a mixture of beaten egg whites, tuba (a type of local wine), and lime. Also within the church's vicinity are two other historical ruins from the Spanish era. The first is the Presidencia Building, which had the dual purpose of being the town's seat of government as well as a fortress to guard against Moro raids. Opposite it is a stone building that used to be a school for the Ilustrados, or society's affluent class. These three structures are located by the coastline of Barcelona, Sorsogon, along the Pan Philippine Highway. A small park was developed by the local government to better promote the site as a tourist attraction.
