The Las Piñas Bamboo Organ was created in 1824 by the Spanish missionary Fray Diego Cera and is currently the only working bamboo organ in the world. It has 1,031 pipes, 902 of which are made of bamboo. Unlike the usual organ pipes made of metal, the bamboo organ is far more difficult to build. Each bamboo pipe was handpicked, taking into consideration that its length, diameter, and sound are suitable for the job. The organ was partly destroyed in an earthquake in the 1880s and was shipped to Germany in 1973 for restoration. In 1975, the organ was returned to St. Joseph Parish Church. That year marked the first celebration of the International Bamboo Organ Festival. In 2013, the National Museum of the Philippines declared the organ a National Cultural Treasure.

Attraction
0.94 km away

Situated on the western fringe of bustling Parañaque, the Bird Sanctuary is the city's backyard park. This 175-hectare wetland is a rich feeding ground supporting 82 endemic and migratory bird species including the Common Green Shank, Black-Winged Stilts, and the rare Pied Avocet. Comprising Freedom Island in Parañaque, and Long Island in Las Piñas, the Bird Sanctuary sights 5,000 birds when in season (November to March). The Bird Sanctuary was rehabilitated in 2004, relocating its informal settlers elsewhere, and adding trees and mangrove to its landscape. Since then, the Bird Sanctuary grew into a protected area and a great outdoor setting for birdwatching, nature walks, and group picnics. The sanctuary is free to visit; guests must first secure a permit in order to be allowed access into the islands. One word of caution though: the sea current brings trash ashore, making the coastline look rather filthy.
