Ogod River Firefly Cruise | Things to do in Donsol-Sorsogon

Ogod River Firefly Cruise 1 Ogod River Firefly Cruise 2
Sorsogon Donsol 249
A sky full of stars and mangrove trees lit by fireflies make evenings in Ogud River an enchanting one. On this cruise, a little boat takes visitors down the river and into a more remote part of the town where only mangroves and other vegetation line the riverbanks. It is a serene journey where one can also learn from the tour guide many interesting facts about fireflies. Like for instance, how their existence is connected with the whale sharks. The Ogud River Firefly Cruise can accommodate groups of up to 5 people per boat. The jump off point is roughly 20 minutes from the town proper and is reachable by motorbike or tricycle. The actual cruise, on the other hand, lasts about two hours, and is best experienced on clear and windless nights. Gliding through this artery of the larger Donsol River is perhaps the best way to cap off an adrenaline-filled day with the whale sharks.

Dancalan Beach
6.53 km away

Dancalan Beach is a crescent-shaped shoreline in the sleepy town of Bulusan, Sorsogon. A public beach easily accessed from the highway, it faces the Pacific Ocean with a very shallow swimming area that goes for several meters before getting really deep. Its pale-colored sand is almost white and talisay trees provide its beachgoers with some shade. There are a few resorts in the area but despite their presence, this spot does not lose any of its simplistic appeal. Campers are welcome to pitch their tents, while those staying just for a few hours can rent day cottages. A minimal fee is also charged to visitors to help with the maintenance.

Malawmawan Island
16.39 km away

Malawmawan Island is an underdeveloped, isolated island off the port of Macalaya town. The island features long stretches of beaches, a beautiful but slightly polluted sandbar, and a secluded lagoon. The island was originally open to overnight stays, but it is currently inhabited by a family claiming ownership of the land. With its lack of amenities and existing ownership disputes, guests are advised to visit the island at their own risk.

Quitinday Falls and Underground River
17.87 km away

Quitinday Falls offers a tall drop ideal for cliff jumping. It has an adjacent 100-meter subterranean river which can be navigated aboard a bamboo raft through Naglaus Cave.
