One of the oldest gates of Intramuros and named after Parian de Arroceros across the city where Chinese merchants lived. Puerta del Parian was one of the seven original gates of Intramuros, built in 1593. Later in 1764, it became the official entrance of the Governor-General to Intramuros, after Puerto Real crumbled during the British Invasion. The Revellin was built in 1603 after a Chinese uprising. In 1739, added chambers were built and the Puerta was fortified to house military soldiers and supplies. It succumbed to the 1945 Battle of Manila and was restored in 1982.
San Francisco church was the mother church of the Franciscans. It was built in 1578 out of Nipa and bamboo. Fire engulfed the church but soon, a new stone church was built in 1645. It suffered an ill fate as a mighty earthquake shook the church to the ground. A third church was made in 1738 but then got caught between the war. The San Francisco Church was famous for its altar-like facade, a heavily decorated baroque-style retablo with corinthian columns and sprawling windows with heavy doors. It was once considered to be one of the best churches in Intramuros. Sadly, after the third reconstructed church succumbed to the war, it remained in the rubble with its war-torn facade. Today, the Mapua University stands in its site.
The oldest distillery in the Philippines opened its doors to the public back in 2018 as a museum dedicated to the history of the Philippine liquor. Chinese merchant Lim Tua Co founded Destileria Limtuaco in 1852. Over the years, this distillery would become one of the best in the country. They were behind some of the most iconic drinks known today like Toska Vodka, El Hombre Tequila, Maria Clara Sangria, Orchid Lime Juice Cordial, and White Castle Whiskey.Inside the museum, guests would opt for something a little more than looking into displays. The museum offers an option for visitors to sample a few of their best liquor, including the 150-year old Chinese herbal wine, Siok Tong.
