Built by the Augustinians in 1790-1800 in a distinctive “Earthquake Baroque” architecture. It symbolizes Vigan as the center of ecclesiastical influence in the north as the seat of the ancient Diocese of Nueva Segovia.
Arzobispado de Nueva Segovia (Archbishop’s Palace) is the only surviving 18th century Arzobispado in the country; served as the headquarters of Gen. Manuel Tinio in 1898 and the invading American forces under Col. James Parker in 1899. Its Museo Nueva Segovia features religious artifacts, archdiocesan archives and other ecclesiastical vestments.
Simbaan a Bassit & Camposanto (Small Church & Cemetery) was built in 1852 and dedicated to the Sto. Cristo, popularly revered in Ilocos as “Apo Lakay” who was believed to have saved Vigan’s populace from two plagues in 1756 and 1882.
