Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers | Things to do in San Fernando City-La Union
|Address:||, San Fernando City, La Union|
Built during the American occupation, the building sits on top of a beautifully landscaped hill overlooking the West Philippine Sea and entire coast of San Fernando.
In grateful thanksgiving to the City of San Fernando and Province of La Union, Congressman Victor F. Ortega and Former Mayor Mary Jane C. Ortega personally commissioned the 25 foot statue of Christ the Redeemer at Reservoir Hill, overlooking the city proper and San Fernando Bay. Since then, on Good Friday, a procession called "Mary's Way" starts at the St. William's Cathedral and the devotees walk barefoot, praying the rosary, and when they reach the place of the Christ the Redeemer, they follow the Stations of the Cross. Here, they recreate Christ's suffering and ending at the Christ the Redeemer statue, just when the sun rises.
This majestic Taoist Temple is located on a hill 70 feet above sea level at Barangay II, San Fernando City, facing the West Philippine Sea. People form all walks of life come and pray for change of luck from Ma Cho, a Chinese deity, whose eight-inch wooden image surprisingly has a counterpart in the Roman Catholic faith known as the "Virgin of Caysasay". The Virgin is enshrined at the Basilica of Saint Martin in Taal, Batangas. The 1 hectare temple has similar sites in Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries where there are Chinese communities.
