Ma-cho Temple | Things to do in San Fernando City-La Union
|Address:||, San Fernando City, La Union|
In grateful thanksgiving to the City of San Fernando and Province of La Union, Congressman Victor F. Ortega and Former Mayor Mary Jane C. Ortega personally commissioned the 25 foot statue of Christ the Redeemer at Reservoir Hill, overlooking the city proper and San Fernando Bay. Since then, on Good Friday, a procession called "Mary's Way" starts at the St. William's Cathedral and the devotees walk barefoot, praying the rosary, and when they reach the place of the Christ the Redeemer, they follow the Stations of the Cross. Here, they recreate Christ's suffering and ending at the Christ the Redeemer statue, just when the sun rises.
Built during the American occupation, the building sits on top of a beautifully landscaped hill overlooking the West Philippine Sea and entire coast of San Fernando.
Poro Point Lighthouse is a dedicatedly preserved century-old lighthouse located within the Poro Point Special Economic and Freeport Zone. It served as guide light of sea farers and ships during the olden times and now stands as a majestic manifestation of the active marine activity of the people. It is in the care of the Poro Point Management Corporation and to highlight the said landmark, the "Sillag Festival of Lights" was initiated every month of May.
