Battle of Binakayan Monument commemorates the first decisive victory of Filipino revolutionaries against Spanish colonial forces on November 9-11, 1896. The monument features metal sculptures of the battle's most celebrated heroes, including Emilio Aguinaldo, Candido Tirona, and Gregoria Montoya. Tirona and Montoya both died in combat. Gregoria was hailed as the Joan of Arc of the Philippine Revolution. The battle, a two-fold encounter that simultaneously took place in Binakayan in Kawit and Dalahican in Noveleta, pitted about 20,000 Spanish troops against more than 100,000 Filipino fighters. Outnumbered and overwhelmed by strong counterattacks, the Spaniards suffered heavy casualties and had to retreat. The victory held off Spanish control over Cavite and strengthened Aguinaldo's leadership position in the Katipunan. It also boosted morale and inspired more Filipinos to join the fight for independence.
This 40-hectare turnip plantation turned into a mangrove plantation is located in Dulong Pulo. It was made possible by an environmental program of the City of Bacoor Agriculture Office with BFAR. The 132,000 propagules are now a lush mangrove forest, home to crabs, seashells and migrating birds.
Every November to December, migratory birds thrive in Bacoor. The city’s lush mangrove forest became home to these birds that are trying to escape the cold Siberian air. This sanctuary can hold thousands of migratory birds, classified in over 82 species, according to studies.
