Logbon Island | Things to do in Romblon-Romblon
|Address:||Logbon Island, Romblon, Romblon|
Just 15 minutes away from the town proper, this marble-white beach is Romblon’s top tourist drawer. It’s a unique formation for it has two long beaches meeting at a corner, which extends to a beautiful long sandbar towards the corally Bangug Islet. The sandbar is like a low slope that divides the sea so the currents (and color) are different on either side of the sandbar. Access to the beach is free and the place is still unspoiled by commercialization.
Watch artisans up close as they carve large slabs of marble into beautiful sculptures, tiles, balustrade, or marble bricks. Witness the cutting, carving, and polishing of the raw marble straight from the quarry. There are four major marble processing plants on the island and some date back to the 1980s. At the workshops, you’ll also see the three different kinds of marble: white, century (with gold streaks), and black onyx.
The marble quarry defines the island of Romblon and there are many quarry sites high in the mountains that seem to have an endless supply of marble. Under the green lush surroundings and dirt reveals the island’s hidden gem showing the beautiful marble mountain. Big blocks of the mineral are cut down to smaller pieces. Mining for marble provides livelihood to many families in the island, especially those living on the foothills.
